MDA operates clinic at Southeast Missouri Hospital

The Muscular Dystrophy Association operates an outpatient clinic at Southeast Missouri Hospital to serve people in southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and western Kentucky who deal with any of the more than 40 neuromuscular diseases in MDA’s program.

The MDA-sponsored clinic will see patients by appointment once each month.

The clinic will be held at Southeast Outpatient Rehabilitation at HealthPoint Plaza in Cape.The MDA-sponsored clinic will offer diagnostic and follow-up care including the muscular dystrophies, spinal muscular atrophy, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Physicians, including a neurologist and a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, a nurse coordinator, respiratory therapist and physical therapist will provide services at the MDA clinic.

The clinic will also offer access to such services as occupational therapy, speech and language pathology and social services consultations, as well as access to other health specialists skilled in the medical management of neuromuscular diseases.

"The MDA-sponsored clinic at Southeast Missouri Hospital will enhance in our community MDA’s delivery of important health care services to adults and children with neuromuscular diseases," Rene Goodman, MDA District Director, said.

"In addition to top-rated medical services through MDA clinics, MDA’s local office also offers support groups, summer camps for youngsters, assistance with purchasing durable medical equipment and much more," said Goodman. "Anyone whose doctor believes a patient may have a neuromuscular disease in MDA’s program is invited to contact our office to find out how the Association can be of assistance."

The MDA-sponsored clinic is one of some 230 MDA outpatient clinics that the Association maintains across the country.

MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. The Association’s programs are funded almost entirely by individual private contributors.
