Nurse Extern Program
"...the fusion of theory with the practical experience of nursing."
SoutheastHEALTH offers students from local Nursing Schools the opportunity to participate in our year-long Nurse Extern Program. The program is designed for the nursing student who would like to get a head start on their skills and career. Students who are about to enter their senior year of nursing are eligible to apply.
As hospital employees, Externs rotate through various departments as they learn and practice nursing skills including assessment, documentation, intervention, and evaluation. Flexible scheduling permits working in this capacity in addition to school commitments. Ten week rotations allow Externs to work with experienced registered nurses in various clinical areas of their choice. See Roles and Responsibilities (PDF)
Who is eligible?
Nursing students who are enrolled in a BSN or ADN program, are within one year of graduation, and who are current in Basic Life Support for healthcare providers (students need to provide a copy of CPR card at time of orientation).
- For those graduating in May, applications will be taken March 1 through March 30.
- For those graduating in December, applications will be taken September 1 through September 30.
