The Department of Surgery at Southeast Hospital

Southeast Hospital’s Department of Surgery is committed to safe, comfortable and informed care for surgical patients.

GI Surgery:

  • GI Surgery is performed on both an outpatient and inpatient basis. Many patients have surgery and return home the same day.
  • Southeast Hospital has a dedicated General Surgery Team in the operating room, including a leadership RN and Leadership Certified Surgical Technologist specific to general surgery.
  • Pre-operative and Recovery Room areas are staffed by RNs and nursing assistants who are expert in the care of pre-operative and post-operative patients of all ages and health status.
  • Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP) is a major, hospital-based quality improvement project dedicated to dramatically reducing the most common surgical complications.
  • Southeast’s SCIP team has moved toward the goal of clinical excellence for post-surgical outcomes since 2004.
  • The SCIP team is chaired by Operating Room Nurse Manager Paula Hope, RN, CNOR. Multidisciplinary team includes representatives from Pharmacy, ICU, inpatient Surgery Floor, Anesthesia, Pre-anesthesia Testing, Diabetes Education, Infection Control, Pre-op/Post-op and Education.
  • Frank McGinty, MD, is one of seven general surgeons on the Southeast Medical Staff and provides physician leadership for the SCIP team.
  • Janet Rigdon, MSN, RN, CNOR, is Administrative Director of Perioperative Services.
