Breast Cancer Early Detection

Celebrating SurvivorshipHere at Southeast Cancer Center, we take a compassionate and comprehensive approach to your cancer treatment. Being diagnosed with breast cancer is a life changing diagnosis and you want a team of compassionate and caring experts behind you.

Breast cancer, if caught early, is a curable cancer. Thirty years ago a radical mastectomy was considered the only option for a patient diagnosed with breast cancer. Today, however, there are many treatment options available and your treatment will depend on the type of breast cancer you have been diagnosed with. In most cases a lumpectomy or a mastectomy is performed, followed by either radiation and/or chemotherapy/biotherapy to ensure all of the cancer cells are killed.

During your treatment, the following team of compassionate and well trained health care professionals may be taking care of you.

  • Doctors
    • Medical Oncologists
    • Radiation Oncologists
    • Surgeons
  • Nurses
  • Dietitians
  • Social Workers
  • Physical Therapists

The ABCs of Breast Health

A Screening Mammogram
Every year for women age 40 and over.
Mammography is the most effective tool in finding early breast cancers.

Breast Self-Exam (BSE)
Every month for women age 20 and over.
Most breast lumps are found by women themselves.
Being familiar with your own breast tissue allows you
to detect change.

Clinical Breast Exam
Every three years, ages 20-39 and yearly after age 40.
Examination by a trained health care professional is your best protection along with mammography and monthly BSE.
