Investing in Excellence at Southeast Missouri Hospital

da Vinci Surgical System

It was the Greek philosopher Aristotle who said, “With regard to excellence, it is not enough to know, but we must try to have and use it.” As part of its commitment to provide the best in care, Southeast Missouri Hospital continually invests in world class technologies that give physicians the tools they need to best benefit patients. Many of these technologies are not available in other communities this size; they are equal – and in some cases superior – to technologies found at some of the world’s leading medical centers.

In February, Southeast became the third hospital in Missouri and the first community hospital to offer robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci® Surgical System. There are fewer than 400 da Vinci systems nationwide.

Using da Vinci, physician specialists from Cape Girardeau Urology Associates can surgically remove the prostate gland with a magnified, three-dimensional view of the prostate more detailed than is possible with the human eye alone. For patients, the benefits are many and include a reduced risk of post-surgical impotence and incontinence.

The da Vinci Surgical System extends the surgeon's reach when performing robotic-assisted prostatectomies at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

Novalis: Precise, Accurate

At Southeast’s Novalis® Shaped Beam SurgeryTM Center, patients are assured of unsurpassed accuracy and precision for the treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the brain, prostate and other areas of the body as well as treatment of trigeminal neuralgia and other neurological disorders. Southeast is the first medical center in Missouri – and one of only 50 worldwide – to offer Novalis.

With "the technology of hope" in thier hands, the highly credentialed and experienced Novalis team at Southeast provides compassionate and quality patient care.

Digital Mammography

The fight against breast cancer has a new weapon in its arsenal at Southeast Missouri Hospital – the MAMMOMAT® Novation,DR a full-field digital mammography system from Siemens Medical Solutions. The benefits of digital mammography are many. They include up to a 40 percent less radiation dose over standard mammography, and there are fewer callbacks or retakes for additional views because images can be enhanced with the computer.

Brillance 64 CT

This past year, Southeast Missouri Hospital has added a state-of-the-art multi-slice Computed Tomography (CT) Scanner to the Radiology Department’s already extensive line of cardiac diagnostic equipment. The Brilliance 64 Slice CT Scanner from Philips Medical Systems can accurately image the heart even while it is constantly moving, often avoiding a more invasive heart catheterization.
Southeast is one of three hospitals in Missouri and the newest to offer patients this cutting edge diagnostic option that enables physicians to detect earlier a range of life-threatening illnesses.
