The Regional Cancer Center at Southeast Missouri Hospital continues a 36-year tradition of providing the latest cancer treatment technology and procedures. Now operational in the Center’s Radiation Therapy Department is a Varian Clinac linear accelerator with Dynamic Multileaf Collimator (DMLC). This technology brings cancer care in our region to a new level of excellence. The new Varian Clinac linear accelerator, which replaces one of the department’s two linear accelerators

This is the same world-class technology found at internationally-renowned cancer centers such as M.D. Anderson, Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Johns Hopkins, Massachusetts General, and the University of Chicago. It is equipped to deliver Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), one of the most precise treatment forms available.

The new linear accelerator’s 120-Multileaf Collimator allows physicians to virtually “paint” on the contours of an irregularly shaped tumor while sparing exposure to healthy tissue.

Molecular Coincidence Imaging

Coincidence imaging is a breakthrough technology that allows standard nuclear cameras to image the high-energy isotopes used in PET imaging without the need for expensive, dedicated systems. 

While PET imaging has previously been available at only a handful of centers around the country, it has been the "gold standard" for imaging many types of cancer.

Southeast was one of the first sites in the area with this promising new technology and has been involved in multicenter trials with academic centers. The Hospital has recently upgraded its system, ensuring the latest medical imaging advances are available to its patients.
