Brain and Spine Tumor Care
Southeast Missouri hospital’s Regional Brain and Spine Center is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art, compassionate care to adult patients and families with brain and spine tumors.
Although our goal is to provide knowledgeable staff and advanced technologies to treat these tumors, we also provide a personal approach to each individual person.
Our program offers:
- A team approach including neurosurgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, neurologists, neuroradiologists, pathologists, rehabilitation specialists, as well as experienced neuroscience nurses.
- Radiation oncology services including Novalis Shaped Beam Surgery, an advanced method of stereotactic radiosurgery. With Novalis, beams of radiation are shaped with millimeter precision to match the exact contour of a tumor, thus protecting surrounding healthy tissue. Southeast Missouri Hospital was the first hospital in Missouri to offer Novalis treatment.
- Brain tumor treatments include Gliadel wafers which are designed to deliver a chemotherapy drug directly into the surgical site.
- An image-guided neuronavigational system in the operating room, giving the neurosurgeon a computerized map of the tumor and key structures within the brain and spine. The surgery department is staffed with a dedicated neurosurgical operating room team.
- Neuroradiology services such as MRI, CT angiography, PET scan, nuclear medicine studies, and cerebral angiography.
- Neurorehabilitation, with an inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, outpatient and home health therapy services, including Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapies.
- Patient support services including social workers, pastoral care, home health, hospice services and a cancer support group.
