Since 1948, when Southeast established its Pediatrics Service, little folks and their care have been an important part of our services. And because each child who comes to Southeast is unique, so are each of the unit's 8 private rooms and two-bed Pediatrics Special Care Unit.

Pediatric Unit Special Touches

The "kid-experienced" staff on Pediatrics also knows that being in the Hospital can sometimes make a child - let's face it - grumpy. That's why we've equipped each patient room with a DVD/VCR Players and Playstation II. Youngsters are welcome to choose from a large selection of videos and games, ranging from everybody's favorite dinosaur Barney to children's classics. Children who are able to leave their rooms find plenty to do in a cheerful Pediatrics Playroom filled with toys and games. And making regular trips along the Pediatrics corridors is the very special "Toy Train" with take-home books, toys, games, stuffed animals and other great kid stuff. Parents/Guardians have 24-hour visiting privileges.

Pediatric Rehabilitation, Clinics and Camps

Southeast's health care services for children don't stop at the bedside.

Youngsters in need of on-going speech, physical or occupational therapy receive specialized services in bright and cheerful child-oriented surroundings at Southeast's Pediatric SPOT, located at HealthPoint Plaza, corner of Kingshighway and Independence.

Children with on-going medical needs may be referred to Cardiology, Endocrinology, Diabetes, Pulmonary, Gastroenterology and Neonatal Development Clinics held at Southeast and staffed by specialists from St. Louis Children's Hospital and SSM Cardinal Glennon Childrens' Medical Center.

Having a medical condition doesn't mean not having fun - just ask the children who look forward to Southeast's Camp DAY Break for kids with diabetes and Camp SuperKids for children with asthma. The camps are under direction of health professionals from Southeast who look forward to trading uniforms for camp t-shirts and plenty of good-natured teasing from their young camper friends.
