Nordenia USA in Cape GirardeauNordenia is a German-owned corporation that manufactures flexible packaging for frozen foods, hygiene products, tissue, paper towels, lawn and garden products and pet food. The company has partnered with Southeast Missouri Hospital and HealthWorks to improve employee wellness.

“It was an easy decision to partner with Southeast Missouri Hospital because it most closely matches our own ethics and values as it relates to our customers and our employees.“Southeast has helped us to reduce our health care costs and focus on the health and wellness of our employees.

”The program began by gathering health profiles of employees. Southeast wellness services staff conducted on-site lipid, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings, weight checks, etc. to build a database that would identify common health issues facing employees. Nordenia has since offered a number of wellness initiatives including smoking cessation programs to help employees improve their overall health.Since working with HealthWorks, Nordenia has transferred all pre-employment physical processing, drug and alcohol testing and Worker's Compensation to Southeast Missouri Hospital.

“We feel our employees get top notch work-related rehabilitation, and Southeast helps to get our employees back to the work place quickly.“We also like the convenience of a one-stop shop with Southeast. Instead of sending employees to two or three doctors or several hospitals, Southeast now handles all our worker rehabilitation, work therapy as well as wellness programs and pre-employment testing. Southeast makes it a lot easier for employers."

"The HealthWorks program at Southeast Missouri Hospital has helped American Railcar Industries develop a health and wellness program for our employees called ‘Keeping Your Health on The Right Track.’

“HealthWorks began by helping us coordinate employee health screenings. These screenings enabled us to get an overall picture of our workforce so we can focus on what types of health and lifestyle-enhancement programs will most benefit our employees. HealthWorks also coordinates with doctors, nurses, dietitians, trainers and others who are willing to come to our facility and speak with our employees about a variety of different health topics. Their presentations help our employees get on the ‘right track’ to living healthier lifestyles which, in turn, helps reduce our healthcare costs.

“Through HealthWorks, we’ve also begun an affiliation with Thomas Marsh, M.D., of the Occupational Medicine Clinic at HealthPoint Plaza for work-related employee injuries. We’ve been very impressed with the results and detailed reports.

“American Railcar is also working with Dr. Marsh and the Occupational Medicine Clinic for all of our pre-employment drug screens and physicals which now include an occupational therapy examination to help us determine if a job applicant is able to physically perform the duties he or she will be asked to do on the job at ARI.

“Without Southeast Missouri Hospital’s HealthWorks program, our health and wellness program would not be where it is today. We look forward to continuing to work with HealthWorks to improve the health and healthcare of our employees.”

HealthWorks at Southeast Missouri Hospital is a unique program designed to help employers pred ict the financial impact of employee health risks on the company's bottom line. With HealthWorks, Southeast Missouri Hospital helps you manage and track a wellness program for your employees. This program will raise your employees' awareness of their own personal health risks and serve as a catalyst for change in your company's overall health.

Noranda Aluminum, Inc. —
“In April of 2004, 351 employees, or 29.3 percent of our staff, took advantage of a Wellness Screening, one component of HealthWorks. Screening profiles indicated that our population's modifiable lifestyles fell into categories that could be improved upon. Several of our health characteristics were over the national norm, giving us opportunities to provide information and education to increase our employees’ understanding of health care issues.

“In assessing the benefit of the HealthWorks wellness screening, one individual stands out in my mind. This person changed eating habits, lost weight, reduced his blood pressure, relieved his depression/stress and increased his exercise. This employee’s personal commitment to a healthier lifestyle increased Noranda's total estimated savings by $7,653.00 for 2005. The estimated health claims savings was $7,048.00, and total estimated lost workdays expense was $605. Multiply this one individual effort by 9 percent, or 108 people, and the savings could be well over a half million dollars annually. Impressive by anyone's standards.

“Noranda Aluminum appreciates the opportunity to participate in HealthWorks at Southeast Missouri Hospital. It is an outward sign of the Hospital's ongoing commitment to business and community. We look forward to continuing to measure our success."
