Dear Karen,
On behalf of the Commission on
Magnet and the American Nurses Credentialing
Center Board of Directors, I extend warm congratulations
to the nurses of Southeast Missouri Hospital
as you celebrate your Magnet Designation. You
and your staff excel by continually raising the
bar and reinventing the standard of excellence. |
| I
always start my meetings by rejoicing in good
news. Today, it is all good news about Southeast
Missouri Hospital! A few of the many accolades
for the nursing practice at Southeast Missouri
Hospital include:
This is a unique organization that
has a long term and culturally engrained pursuit
of excellence for the community.
The Chief Nursing Officer is seen
as a mentor, inspires others, and motivates everyone.
Nursing leaders are perceived as
knowledgeable, risk-takers who convey a strong
sense of advocacy and support on behalf of the
staff. |
|
A significant community
presence exists. The organization is perceived
as a strong, positive, and productive corporate
citizen.
Nurses are viewed as integral to
the health care organization's ability to provide
patient care services.
The Nursing Department has a long
standing commitment to excellence. Creative ideas
and innovative programs are welcomed and supported.
The atmosphere is positive
and encourages nurses to express their ideas,
thus giving the
nursing staff the autonomy necessary to effectively
treat patients.
Significant emphasis is placed
on orientation, in-service education, continuing
education, formal education, and career development.
The appraisal team commented that
there was a palpable joy of the staff nurses
in their work and in the recognition of the contributions
they make to patient care.
A progressive performance evaluation
process exists, with evidence of trust, respect,
and open communication.
Patients have responded positively
and favorably in patient satisfaction surveys
giving scores higher than those of benchmark
groups' surveys.
Patient care is the focus of multidisciplinary
teams. These teams promote collaboration and
collegial relationships, with nursing at the
core.
Karen, I applaud you and your staff
for continuing to advance the nursing profession
and demonstrating exceptional leadership in your
community. Best wishes for a wonderful and meaningful
celebration.
Best regards,
Jeanne Floyd, PhD, RN, CAE
