Since he is home-schooled, he is able to volunteer throughout the year.

Director of Volunteer Services Marge Sullivan submitted the nomination on Jon’s behalf. She commented, “It is difficult to quantify the number of lives Jon has touched and the amount of assistance he has contributed. Looking at the number of departments in which he has worked, he has easily assisted more than 500 staff members, always with a willing heart and bright smile.”

Jon is the son of Jim and Becky Atwood of Cape Girardeau. Jon’s father worked at Southeast as an orderly in 1965; and his grandmother, Margot Atwood, worked as a registered nurse for many years on Southeast’s Pediatrics floor.

The award was presented yesterday at the United Way recognition luncheon which was sponsored by Southeast Missouri Hospital. Assistant Administrator Pat Bira spoke on “The Importance of Volunteerism” during the program.
