Southeast Missouri Hospital is offering nursing students the opportunity to participate in a nurse externship program. Qualified students may apply for either the 10-week summer Externship or the year-round program.

The 10-week rotations allow students to work with experienced registered nurses in various clinical areas of their interest.

Application deadline is March 15, 2008 for those graduating May 2009 and September 1, 2008 for those graduating December 2009.

Positions are limited, so early application is recommended.

Students will work a 16 or 24-hour week with flexibility for 8 or 12-hour shifts, depending on the clinical experience selected.  During the summer break, Externs may work up to 40 hours per week.

Benefits include excellent pay and opportunities for tuition assistance, with a maximum of $3,000 for their senior year.

Who is eligible?

Nursing students enrolled ina BSN or ADN program who are within one year of graduation.
Current in basic life support for healthcare providers

Employment Applicants need one letter of recommendation (from employer if currently employed) and one Reference Form (to be completed by a Nursing School Faculty member). They must also meet all the eligibility requirements for employment at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
