Ilena Aslin Award
The Ilena Aslin Service Award was established to pay tribute to Ilena’s dedicated service to SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary, and to perpetuate her spirit of service. Recipients serve others before self, demonstrate dedication to the best performance of any task large or small, the willingness to help wherever and whenever needed and serve as a goodwill ambassador for both the hospital and the Auxiliary. It recognizes Auxilians who make a positive impact on the Auxiliary’s growth and esteem through their own unique contributions.
Shirley Waterman is the latest recipient of the Ilena Aslin Service Award. Shirley was recognized for helping to brighten the lives of patients, visitors and staff since she began volunteering at the Hospital in 1978. She started volunteering as chairman of the Hospital Lobby Desk, then known as the Hostess Desk. She was responsible for staffing the desk with volunteers every shift, every day. She later volunteered at the Snack Bar and made crafts to be sold in the Gift Shop. Shirley later worked in hair car, before moving on to handle duties in the Surgical Waiting Room where she volunteers today. In all, Waterman has contributed more than 9,000 hours of service to Southeast Hospital.
Margaret Foster Roberts Spirit Award
The Margaret Foster Roberts Spirit Award was established to honor Auxilian Margaret Foster Roberts for her innovative and exemplary leadership, her deep devotion to the Auxiliary’s mission, fiscal stability, membership and service growth, her commitment to Southeast Hospital and enthusiasm as an outstanding, good will ambassador for the Hospital. It recognizes her spirit, leadership qualities and loyalty to the Auxiliary and Hospital by honoring other Auxilians whose own dedicated service and unique spirit positively and significantly influence both the Auxiliary and the Hospital.
Jane Grimm is the latest recipient of the Margaret Foster Roberts Spirit Award. Jane was honored for her countless volunteer efforts and leadership with the Auxiliary, dating back to 1959. She began her volunteer work serving at the Lobby Desk. That led to volunteering at the Snack Bar which was located in the old first-floor lobby. Jane served as Auxiliary treasurer for several years and did hands-on service for years with the Landscape/Beautification Committee. Jane also was a Flea Market volunteer for many years and successfully co-chaired the event with her late husband, Judge Stanley Grimm, in 1986. In 1998, she developed and coordinated the Auxiliary’s Friendly Visitor Program, the forerunner of the Hospitality Cart program.
