Inpatient and Outpatient Registration Procedures
Most patients coming into Southeast Missouri Hospital must be referred by a physician on the Hospital’s medical staff or have an acceptable physician order requesting services. This is preferably done in advance so the Hospital can obtain medical information about you and other necessary background. Certain services, such as emergency care and mammography, can be requested without a physician order.
Your registration process may include a contact with the Hospital’s Central Scheduling Office which handles pre-registration and scheduling. Our Central Scheduling Office is open from 7:30 am until 6:30 pm Monday-Friday. Central Scheduling can be reached by calling (573) 331-6351 or toll-free 1-877-399-7123.
Your registration will be completed in the Patient Registration Department, located near the Lobby Information Desk. When you register at the Hospital, a plastic identification bracelet will be placed on your arm. Please do not remove it. This bracelet serves as your identification throughout your stay.

During your hospitalization, you will be asked to provide information and sign forms which authorize Southeast to provide the treatment your physician has requested and to assign insurance benefits to the Hospital.
Registration forms should be signed by the person responsible for your bill. (For more information, please refer to the section about billing elsewhere in this booklet.)
If you are a beneficiary of the Medicare, Champus or Champ VA programs, please read the "important message from Medicare/Champus" provided to you upon registration.

Explanation of Hospital Costs and Insurance Coverage
Southeast Missouri Hospital will make every effort to help you understand the cost of your Hospital services and the coverage of those services by your insurance to the extent possible.
Before or during your registration, you may discuss these matters with a representative of our Patient Accounts Department who will provide you with the approximate cost of the services you are going to receive. This process can sometimes take a few minutes, so it is advisable to do this in advance of your scheduled service.
If you have questions concerning your insurance coverage, we suggest you contact your employer or insurance agent, depending on how your insurance is provided to you. These are the best sources of information about covered services, deductibles, and any co-payment requirements.

Patient Valuables
We suggest that you not keep valuables, including cash or expensive clothing, with you while hospitalized. Items such as jewelry (rings, watches, etc.) and cash can be secured in the Hospital’s safe in the Patient Registration Department. Southeast Missouri Hospital is not responsible for the loss or damage of any property you choose to keep in your room or in your possession.
Lost and found items are kept in the Cashier’s Office on the first floor near the Lobby. If you lose something, check there to see if it has been found.
