Patient Safety
Southeast Missouri Hospital is committed to the safety of patients, visitors, and staff. Some of the tips to keep you safe include:
- We depend on you to give us accurate and complete information.
- Report or question any perceived risks to your care or anything you feel is not accurate. For example, if you are asked to take a medication you have not seen before, ask about it.
- Clean hands are the best guard against the spread of infection. To help prevent the spread of infection, you are encouraged not to visit other patients.
- Refrain from using any personal electric devices in your room which can cause fire or cause other hazards to you and other patients.
- Do not tamper with any equipment being used in your care.
- Do not open Hospital windows.
- In the event of fire or severe weather, follow the directions of Hospital staff.
- All Hospital employees wear photo ID badges. Report to Hospital staff any suspicious persons in your area who do not have ID badges.
- Communication between you, your physician, and other healthcare providers is very important. Please ask questions and express any concerns you have about your care or test results.
- Tobacco use is prohibited in all areas of the Hospital.
- During your stay in the Hospital, our staff will periodically check your identification bracelet or ask you identifying information. This is to help assure you receive the correct medications and other treatments.

Security
Safety of Hospital patients, employees and visitors is a 24-hour priority of the Security Department at Southeast Missouri Hospital. Security officers are on duty at all times to patrol Hospital buildings and parking areas.
Security can assist you in securing your valuables in the Hospital safe if you did not do so as you registered. The Hospital is not responsible for the loss of valuables which you keep in your possession while here. (See "Registration" information in this booklet for more information about patient valuables, the safe and our Lost and Found service.)
After regular visiting hours, identification is required for your visitors who have permission to remain in the Hospital on your patient care unit. (See the "Visiting Hours" section of this booklet for more information.)
