World-Class Technology for Cancer Treatment

Varian linear accelerator

The new Varian linear accelerator is the same world-class technology found at internationally-renowned cancer centers such as M.D. Anderson, Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Johns Hopkins, Massachusetts General, and the University of Chicago.

The Regional Cancer Center at Southeast Missouri Hospital continues a 36-year tradition of providing the latest cancer treatment technology and procedures. Now operational in the Center’s Radiation Therapy Department is a Varian Clinac linear accelerator with Dynamic Multileaf Collimator (DMLC). This technology brings cancer care in our region to a new level of excellence.

It is equipped to deliver Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), one of the most precise treatment forms available.

The new linear accelerator’s 120-Multileaf Collimator allows physicians to virtually “paint” on the contours of an irregularly shaped tumor while sparing exposure to healthy tissue.

It replaces one of the department’s two linear accelerators.
