For members of the Cutsingers, Moores and Bolins families, life began at Southeast
Missouri Hospital.
This is just one of the thousands of area families
who have counted on Southeast to deliver two,
three and even four generations of their children
since we delivered our first baby 75 years ago.
In fact, more families have depended on Southeast
for obstetrical care than any other hospital in
the region.
Through the years these families have seen many
changes in Southeast’s maternal and child
services. |

Southeast Missouri Hospital has delivered
three generations of Kay Bolin's and Beverly Cutsinger's
families. From left, family members include Nathan
Bolin, Dale Bolin, Carole Moore, Dylan Moore,
Rick Moore, Cameron Kay Moore, Kay Bolin, Taylor
Bolin, Denise Bolin and Beverly Cutsinger. |
For instance, Beverly Cutsinger
says that when she was born, her mother stayed
in a semi-private obstetrical “ward”
with several other new mothers. “But when
I gave birth to Denise it was much more warm and
personal and last year, when I was Denise’s
‘coach,’ there was an even higher
level of comfort and privacy.
One thing that hasn’t changed has been
the care and expertise of Southeast’s obstetrics
staff, expertise Mrs. Cutsinger counted on when
one of her twins, Julia, needed the additional
medial care provided by our Neonatal Special Care
Nursery following her birth in 1981.
Southeast opened the area’s first neonatal
nursery in the 1970s. It’s this care and
expertise that draws families from throughout
Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois to our
Hospital.
In fact, Roger Bolin (Kay’s husband) tells
the story of the day Kay went into labor with
Dale while visiting relatives in Poplar Bluff.
“We made it from Poplar Bluff to Cape Girardeau
in less than an hour, passing several other hospitals
on the way,” he recalled, “and Dale
was born 45 minutes after we arrived!” |
