When it comes to Breast Cancer
Early Detection is Best Protection
Each month, KFVS-12 Television features a story on a Breast Cancer survivor or Buddy Check participant. Please contact Sally Owen at Southeast Missouri Hospital with your uplifting story or idea by e-mailing sowen@sehosp.org or calling 573-651-5533.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer for women -- and the second most deadly. The American Cancer Society estimates 182,800 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2000.

But death rates have been declining throughout the 1990s due to early detection and improved treatment.

The likelihood of successful treatment is greatest when breast cancer is detected early, which is why Southeast Missouri Hospital and KFVS 12 sponsor Buddy Check 12 breast exam education.

Southeast Missouri Hospital wants to remind you to take part in routine mammograms and breast examinations by your physician and at home.

The Buddy Check program is sponsored by Southeast Missouri Hospital and KFVS 12. On the 12th day of each month, a member of the KFVS TV 12 news team presents a special Buddy Check report on the 5 p.m. newscast.
