"On May 16, 2000, the Board
of Trustees of Southeast Missouri Hospital voted
to recognize the distinguished and dedicated service
of pediatrician James A. Kinder, M.D., by naming
Southeast's Department of Pediatrics in his honor.
This honor was bestowed in recognition of Dr.
Kinder's lifelong devotion to the care of children
from all walks of life and in appreciation of
his faithful service to the medical profession
and to Southeast Missouri Hospital as a member
of the Medical Staff since 1948 and as a member
of the Board of Trustees from 1977 to 1985.
Instrumental in helping Southeast establish a
Department of Pediatrics in the 1960s and a Pediatric
Special Care Unit in 1981, Dr. Kinder also served
as Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics.
His tireless efforts to be an advocate for the
health care needs of infants and children and
his determination to provide for the care of those
less fortunate than others, prompted him to serve
on the staff of the Cape Girardeau County Public
Health Center's Primary Care Clinic instead of
retiring. At the time of his death, July 1, 2000,
Dr. Kinder was still on that staff devoting his
days to the care of children with special needs.
Under the watchful eye of Dr. Kinder, several
generations have been guided through childhood
and their parents encouraged and educated. By
those thousands of "Kinder's Kids,"
he is remembered with affection; by their parents
he is remembered with appreciation; by his professional
associates, this community and Southeast Missouri
Hospital, he is remembered with admiration. A
man of unquestionable character with a deep commitment
to his family, church, profession and the community's
children, Dr. Kinder made a lasting difference
with his life and left this world a better place."
